Is coffee good for you?

We categorize coffee as «bad». But it’s all about bio-individuality.

Coffee can be a double-edged sword, as it has many health benefits (see below) but can also be detrimental to some people's health.

If:

  • Your Adrenal glands are depressed

  • You have chronic fatigue

  • You have parasites in your gut

  • You have an autoimmune disease and immune system dysfunction

  • You are genetically predisposed to be a «slow metaboliser» of caffeine

Then coffee isn’t for you at this moment in time. This doesn't mean it will never be! (Unless you are genetically predisposed.)

For all other people, coffee has many health benefits! Studies have shown how coffee affects brain health, decreases the risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, liver fibrosis, cirrhosis of the liver, gallstone disease and some cancers.

These benefits are attributable to the antioxidants, polyphenols, and bioactive compounds found in coffee (including some with insulin-sensitizing and anti-inflammatory properties). It also contains unique types of fiber that benefit the gut microbiome. Some health benefits of coffee are also directly attributable to its caffeine content, which is partly why many of the health-protective effects of coffee are not seen with decaf coffee (Not to mention that the decaffeinating process tends to strip the coffee of many of its antioxidants, polyphenols and phytochemicals, and can leave debris of some chemicals used in the decaffeinating process).

So if you want to make the best of all the health benefits coffee can offer, do not chose the decaf version.

At the end of the day, It’s all about the quality of the coffee you drink! Always pick organic coffee beans that you grind yourself, organic already ground coffee or organic non-aluminum coffee pods. I like the brand “Artizan Coffee” for my Nespresso machine. (Instant coffee does not have the same benefits). Choosing organic is important because coffee has a very high concentrate of pesticides.
